The thing nobody tells you

This is not a flat course, and it is not a personal-best course.

The Kashmir Marathon climbs approximately 960 metres. The half marathon has a three-hour cut-off that applies to every age band, including veterans.

Most people flying in will discover both of those facts somewhere around kilometre fifteen.

You train for the race. We plan everything around it.

Runners climbing an open road through the Zabarwan foothills above Srinagar, with terraced tulip garden slopes and the bare ridgeline behind

Course, section by section

KM 0–8
Flat and fast along the Boulevard with Dal Lake on your shoulder. The road here is quicker than it feels, which is exactly the problem.
KM 8–16
The Zabarwan foothills begin. Long, shallow gradients that never quite let you settle into a rhythm.
KM 16–24
The Shankaracharya shoulder — the steepest sustained climb of the day, and where the half-marathon cut-off starts to bite.
KM 24–32
Rolling orchard roads through Chinar country. Exposed, and warmer by now than the start line suggested.
KM 32–42
A long descent back down to the lake. Quad-punishing after the climb, but the finish comes on flat ground.

The honest fit check

Would you actually make the cut-off?

The journey

Five days, planned around the race, not around a spreadsheet.

  1. Day 1 · Thu 22 Oct

    Arrival & the honest briefing

Shikara boats on Dal Lake at dusk as the group arrives in Srinagar

Land in Srinagar, settle in, and meet the group over dinner. The evening closes with a course briefing that covers the climb, the cut-off and the weather in plain terms. It is a briefing, not a sales pitch.

    • Airport transfer and check-in
    • Welcome dinner with the group
    • Course briefing: climb, cut-off, weather
  2. Day 2 · Fri 23 Oct

    Shakeout & the city

A small group of runners jogging easily together on a shakeout run through Srinagar

An easy shakeout run to loosen off the flight, then the city at an unhurried pace. Bib collection is handled as a group, so nobody spends the day before the race chasing paperwork.

    • Easy shakeout run
    • Dal Lake and the old city
    • Group bib collection, early dinner
  3. Day 3 · Sat 24 Oct

    The protected day

A quiet hotel room looking out over the mountains on the rest day before the race

Nothing is scheduled, and that is the point. The day before the race is kept deliberately empty — no sightseeing, no transfers, no optional extras quietly competing for your legs.

    • No plans, by design
    • Carb-loading dinner
    • Kit check and early lights out
  4. Day 4 · Sun 25 Oct

    Race day

Runners massed at the start line before dawn under floodlights on race morning

Pre-dawn transport to the start, timed backwards from your wave rather than from a generic departure. After the finish, a recovery zone that is ours: food, warmth, physios, and somewhere to sit down.

    • Pre-dawn transfer to the start line
    • The race
    • Finish-line recovery zone
  5. Day 5 · Mon 26 Oct

    Recovery in Pahalgam

The Lidder riverside at Pahalgam where the group recovers the day after the race

Out of the city and up into the Lidder valley. A therapist-led mobility session takes the worst out of your legs, and the rest of the day is riverside and deliberately slow.

    • Transfer to Pahalgam
    • Therapist-led mobility session
    • Optional 6th night on Recovery Plus

What’s actually different

Nine small things most travel companies skip.

  1. 01

    The pace card

A kilometre-by-kilometre plan built from your fit-check answers and this course's real gradients, handed to you at check-in. Not a generic split chart — yours.

  2. 02

    The honest fit check

The same tool that sits further up this page. We tell you whether the cut-off is a genuine risk before you book, not after your balance has cleared.

  3. 03

    Guaranteed sleep

No shared dorms, no overbooked hotels, no quiet reallocation the week before. Your room is confirmed in writing before you pay the balance.

  4. 04

    The protected day

The day before the race stays deliberately empty. Nothing sightseeing-shaped gets crammed in, and no optional extra quietly taxes your legs.

  5. 05

Local pacers who know the climb

Kashmir-based pacers who have run this exact course, not generic marathon pacers flown in for the weekend. They know which climb breaks people.

  6. 06

    Finish-line recovery zone

Physio, warm food and somewhere to sit down, within two minutes of the finish line. Not a twenty-minute walk back to the hotel in a foil blanket.

  7. 07

    The recovery chapter

One or two nights in Pahalgam after the race, with therapist-led gentle mobility. Explicitly optional, explicitly non-medical, and skippable without losing anything.

  8. 08

    Five-minute response

A named concierge rather than a ticket queue. Any question during service hours gets an answer inside five minutes, from someone who already knows your booking.

  9. 09

A host who has actually run it

Our team includes people who have personally run this course. They know where it hurts, because it hurt them too.

How payment works

Three payments, clearly staged.

  1. Step 01

    Token payment

    ₹4,999

    At reservation

Paid at the time of reservation. This secures your registration for the Kashmir Marathon and is non-refundable, because it covers your official race entry processing with the organiser.

  2. Step 02

    Main payment

    80% of package cost

    15–20 days after the token

Due 15 to 20 days after your token payment. This is what confirms your hotel rooms, your transfers and your on-ground services — until it lands, nothing is held in your name.

  3. Step 03

    Final settlement

    Balance due

    At hotel checkout

Settled at hotel checkout, covering any incidentals or on-ground adjustments. Nothing here is a surprise charge; it is the tail of what you have already seen.

Questions

What people actually ask before booking.

What happens if I don’t make the cut-off?

The cut-off belongs to the organiser, not to us. If you finish outside it, your official time and finisher status are theirs to decide, and we cannot override that — anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. What we do control is everything after: transport back, your hotel, the recovery zone, and the Pahalgam chapter if it is in your package. Nothing in your booking is withdrawn, and nobody on our team will make you feel small about it.

Is the entry fee refundable if I cancel?

Two separate pots of money, and only one of them is ours to give back. Our package fee carries a cancellation charge that scales with how close to the event you pull out:

30 days or more before the event
10% of the total package cost
15–29 days before the event
50% of the total package cost
7–14 days before the event
75% of the total package cost
Less than 7 days before the event
100% — no refund
No-show
No refund for non-utilisation of any booked service

The official race entry is non-refundable and non-transferable under the organiser's terms (Department of Tourism, J&K), and so is the ₹4,999 token that pays for it. Neither is within our control once submitted — anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.

I’ve never run at altitude before, is that a problem?

Srinagar sits at roughly 1,585 metres — high enough to notice, not high enough to be a medical event. For most recreational runners it means breathing feels a little harder at the same effort and your heart rate runs a few beats higher; it does not mean altitude sickness. On this course the climb will cost you far more time than the elevation of the city will. Your fit check and pace card are built around that, so your expectations are calibrated before you land rather than during.

Can I book for just myself, or does everyone come as a group?

Solo runners are welcome, and they make up a large share of every group we take. You are not left to work it out alone — the briefing, the shakeout run, the pacer group run and the recovery sessions are all shared, so you arrive already knowing faces. If you would rather keep to yourself, that is equally fine. Nothing is compulsory, and nobody will chase you onto a minibus.

What’s actually included in the room — am I sharing with a stranger?

Package prices are quoted per runner on twin-sharing, which is standard for a trip like this. If you travel with someone, you share with them. If you are solo, we ask you first — we never pair strangers by default, and you will not find yourself in a room with someone you have not agreed to. A single-room upgrade is available on every package; ask and we will quote it.

How fast do you actually respond if I have a question?

Within five minutes during service hours, which are 9am to 9pm IST. That is a named concierge with your booking already open — not a ticket queue, and not a bot. Outside those hours you will have a reply first thing the next morning, and while you are travelling with us there is a direct number answered around the clock.
